About the name
Why we are called Dorelli
Dorelli is not a brand name from a generator. It is our family name, shortened for the radio after the war and handed down, three generations later, to a cloud.
A name too long for the radio
Hendrik Doreleijers was born in Utrecht in 1907. He was a baritone who sang opera, operetta and oratorio, and just as happily a light tune. When he started singing for the radio in Hilversum after the war, the broadcaster found his surname too long for the announcement. So he became Henk Dorèl.
Under that name he was a familiar voice at the broadcasters KRO and NCRV for years. Dutch listeners may know him without knowing it: he sang the chorus of Hup Holland Hup and the theme of Negen heit de klok. He died in Laren in 1993.
Studio Dorèl
His son Marcel took the short name to Groningen, where he worked as a photographer and book designer under the name Studio Dorèl. The first generation had a voice, the second an eye.
A publishing house, and now a cloud
Melle Doreleijers, the grandson, comes from IT. In 2021 he started a publishing house in The Hague for children's books with songs in them. Uitgeverij Doreleijers is still the company behind everything, including this site.
Dorelli Cloud is the third form of the same name. Dorèl gained two letters, so that it reads in an address bar and in English the way it sounds. What we do with it is on the rest of this site: putting websites and apps you built with AI online in the Netherlands.
What the name means for you
You cannot throw away a family name when things get difficult. It is on this site, on your invoice and in the trade register, with an address next to it. That is the whole reason we use it: you know who is behind your hosting.
